Intellectual property
The texts, layout and Cause We Are Young brand belong to the publisher. Photos are the publisher’s own or published under a free licence (Wikimedia Commons); they are credited on each guide’s “Photo credits” page. The texts may not be reproduced without permission; links to the pages are welcome.
Personal data: browsing the sites
No cookies and no forms on this home page. To show the number of guides and reviews on the Guides Nepal card, your browser asks guides-nepal.causeweareyoung.com (same publisher) for it: this request, without cookies, only passes on your IP address and browser. Audience measurement (Cloudflare Web Analytics) works without cookies or identifiers: it counts page views, countries and browsers, in aggregate. Like any host, IONOS keeps technical logs (IP address, page requested, date) for a few weeks, for the sites’ security. The same applies to the Nepal Visa, Trek Nepal and Visit Nepal guides, with one difference: pages with comments ask the Cause We Are Young account (account.causeweareyoung.com, same publisher) whether you are logged in there, to offer to comment with your account; it only receives the request (IP address, browser) and only answers yes or no. No cookie is set unless you log in.
Personal data: comments and contributions
On Nepal Visa, Trek Nepal and Visit Nepal you can leave a comment, and on Trek Nepal a review or a photo of a lodge.
- Comment: a nickname and the text, both published. The email address is optional and never shown: it is used to tell you about a reply if you ask for it (every email has a link to stop them) and to show your Gravatar image if you have one (a fingerprint of the address is sent to Gravatar, a service of Automattic, USA, for this).
- Account: you can also comment while logged in with the Cause We Are Young account; your name and address then come from that account (its privacy policy). Logging in sets a session cookie on the guide (
__Host-cm_sess), needed for it to work, so it does not require consent. - Lodge reviews and photos (Trek Nepal): sent with an account, read before publication; a photo is only published if you state that you took it yourself.
- Security: with each submission and each report, we keep a fingerprint of your IP address (never the address itself), to limit abuse and repeated submissions.
Comments may be read by a moderator before they are published. Legal bases: legitimate interest (publishing comments, protecting the sites) and your consent (being told about a reply). Retention: as long as the comment or contribution exists on the site (online, or hidden by moderation); you can ask for it to be erased at any time.
Service providers
- IONOS (France, European Union): hosting of the sites and database, sending of emails.
- Cloudflare (USA): delivery and protection of the sites; sees requests, including your IP address.
- Gravatar, Automattic (USA): profile images for comments, only if you give an email address.
Transfers outside the European Union rely on the safeguards provided by the GDPR (standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework). No data is sold or used for advertising.
Your rights
You can access your data, correct it, object to its processing or ask for it to be erased by writing to contact@causeweareyoung.com. You may also complain to your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL: www.cnil.fr).
